6/30/05 - The Night before the Fourth Movie Night
The public is invited to Hunt Memorial Park this Sunday evening, July 3 for an old fashioned celebration of Independence Day. Starting at dusk (sunset that day is at 8:24 p.m., so add a few minutes) "family friendly flicks" will be shown on an outdoor screen. There will be music starting at about 8 p.m.
Everyone is invited to this low-key, down-home community event, which is absolutely free. Bring a picnic dinner, bring your kids, and celebrate the night before the fourth with your neighbors.
Hunt Park, also called Little League Field, is located at the foot of Pleasant Street, at the corner of Eaton Street. The event is sponsored by the Night Before the Fourth Committee and Reading Community Television. For details contact The Hot Spot on Haven Street, or RCTV.

5/1/05 - Technology and Education Foundation Telethon
The Reading Advocate

The Reading Technology and Education Foundation (Reading Tech Fund) is running a town-wide telethon, to be broadcast by RCTV. The Tech Fund is hoping to replenish its accounts so it can underwrite new grant applications for Reading Public Schools. Many students from RMHS have volunteered their time to make calls during the telethon. We hope you will tune in and respond generously to their appeal on Sunday. The Reading Tech Fund's mission - to support Reading's educators who have innovative and creative ideas for motivating their students and improving learning - is only constrained by its financial resources. Since 2001, RTEF has provided $145,000 in technology funding to support innovative instruction in Reading's public schools. RTEF grants are supplemental to the town's school budget and are not intended to replace equipment or services cut from the district operating budget or to fund requests more typically funded by a school's PTO.

If your company has a matching gifts program, your donation can go further. Checks can be mailed to Reading Technology and Education Foundation, 62 Oakland Road, Reading, MA 01867. The foundation is also looking to expand its board and volunteer positions. Consider joining this worthwhile group. Contact Debbie Boschetti, 781-942-0369 or e-mail boschetti@comcast.net.

11/26/04 - What's wrong with Channel 10?
RCTV is having a problem with Comcast's fiber modulator which controls broadcasting for one of RCTV's PEG channels. The modulator started to cut on and off last weekend and finally died on Tuesday night (Nov. 23). The failed modulator belongs to Comcast and not RCTV. The broadcast equipment is very old and hard to replace but RCTV is currently working with Comcast to resolve this problem.

In the meantime, all educational programming will be moved to public access channel 9 and school committee meetings will be moved to government channel 22. The RCTV program schedule will be updated online. As a result, the schedules published in the local papers this week may be inaccurate.

Sorry for the inconvenience. With a little luck, the failed broadcast modulator will be repaired or replaced by the end of next week.
