Eugene Nigro
- Member, RCTV Board of Directors
- Several years ago, I called Amy Brough, former RCTV Executive Director complaining that an announcement I had submitted about an upcoming Reading Symphony Orchestra concert had not been placed on RCTV’s Community Bulletin Board. She explained how short-staffed they were with the limited budget RCTV had and wondered if I would be willing to volunteer at the station helping put on the notices.
- Having recently retired, I agreed with a certain amount of trepidation. She arranged for me to come in for an orientation and training. In arriving at the station, Amy, in her own inimitable and engaging manner, reassured me how easy it was.
- She provided some training and before long I was spending an hour or two each week and, with Phil’s help, putting on notices from the various local nonprofit organizations and meetings, lectures, book discussions, concerts, etc., that they wanted the pubic to know about. As I did this, I had the growing realization of what a powerful resource was available to all these groups with often very limited budgets in getting the message out. Not only can it be the best no cost communication vehicle for the Town but it’s also a wonderful place to learn how to produce your own shows and having them shown on TV. The staff will help you bring out the best of your creativity. Active programming adds to the cultural vibrancy of the community. To further these goals, when asked whether I would like to join the Board of Directors, I couldn’t resist and said yes.
- - Eugine Nigro was elected by the membership to the RCTV Board of Directors at the annual meeting in February 2004.
