RCTV roundtable to feature 'greatest generation'

Reading Advocate, Thursday, September 30, 2004
Reading Community Access Television announces it newest program entitled: "Community Parish Nursing and the Greatest Generation."

This program will feature folks from the community who are members of "The Greatest Generation" and who will participate in a roundtable discussion on major events that occurred during the past century. Phone lines will be open to allow other folks from the community to call in and add to the "story telling."

The first program focus will be on the hurricane of 1938 - a timely topic as we are dealing with the 10th hurricane of the season. Although there have been many changes since 1938, one thing that hasn't changed is weather and man's inability to control the weather. However, today, through science and technology, satellites give moment-by-moment tracking of these terrible storms. Meteorologists keep us informed of the progress of hurricanes, enabling the people in their paths time to prepare and evacuate to higher ground if necessary. But what was it like in 1938?

Tune in Thursday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. for a roundtable discussion by some of Reading's most senior residents. Hear what happened in New England as a major hurricane hit Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire in 1938 and people had little warning or time to prepare.
